Diogmites basalis

Diogmites basalis
Lincoln, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
August 3, 2006
Brighter red on the abdomen as it flew.
Across a path from a small pond.

Looks much better on my brighter laptop than my monitor at work unfortunately.

Moved
to guide.

Diogmites
Appears to be Diogmites basalis. Apparently fairly common up there in MA and the NE. I have not seen one down here.

Thanks
That looks right. Glad the darkness that I didn't notice until I looked at work this morning didn't affect ability to id.

Robber Fly?
Just a place to start...
