Horse Fly - Tabanus atratus - Tabanus atratus

Horse Fly - Tabanus atratus - Tabanus atratus
Chanhassen, Carver County, Minnesota, USA
August 4, 2006
Size: ~1.5 inches
I had the wrong lens on the camera and I could get only one shot that was a bit too close. However, this very large fly landed on the house siding. The wings and body and head all were jet black. The antennae were shorter than others I've seen on Bugguide. Any help?

Fly
Soldier's aren't that giant, but Tabanus atratus is. And this may be a female of that species.

Moved
to guide.

Tabanus
Thanks, that's more like it!

Nice image!
This makes up for the "headless horsefly" we had a couple days ago.
