Bright Red Flower Longhorn - Batyle

Bright Red Flower Longhorn - Batyle
May 14, 1993
Looking through Yanega I didn't find many red longhorns. The closest seems to be Batyle suturalis.

Batyle sp.
Really can't depend on color pattern to ID too many species. There is so much individual variation. This is definitely in the genus Batyle, but beyond that I cannot say. I wish Doug Yanega himself had the time to visit this site daily, but he has curatorial responsibilities:-)

Batyle suturalis
Doing some more work on this today, I found that there are only two Eastern species of Batyle, and the other one, B. ignicollis, has black elytra.
