This mantis perched on the blossom of a Helianthus annuus, a common native sunflower that self-seeds in my front yard (Albuquerque, NE, Alameda 7.5 minute quadrangle). It ambushed a bee that came for nectar. The images are posted in chronological order:

1. The head is removed first.
2. Pink gooey innards of thorax are eaten.
3. Wing in the way gets plucked off.
4. Eating resumes.
