Indeed, the cereus is taking the summer air beneath our sycamore, so Laci P's identification of this beauty as the Sycamore Tussock Moth is on target. Thanks.

My initial
thought was sycamore tussock moth (Halysidota larrisii), but they wouldn't be found on a cereus. Unless...are there sycamores nearby/overhead?
