Walking Sticks - Anisomorpha ferruginea - male - female

Walking Sticks - Anisomorpha ferruginea - Male Female
Bellville, Austin County, Texas, USA
July 24, 2006
Size: female-4 in. male-1.5 in.
Found outside the door mating, wondering about a genus and species!

Moved
Moved from Anisomorpha.

Anisomorpha ferruginea
would be the species in the Austin area. Indeed a "similar species", very similar to A. buprestoides. In fact some people would argue that they are probably regional variants of the same species! This one is smaller, stripes average narrower and more faint, and it has a proportionately shorter (almost square) head. It is found more inland (apparently doesn't reach the Gulf or south Atlantic coasts where A. buprestoides is found) and further north.

...
This must be A. buprestoides. Otherwise it is some kind of Mexican species that would be a new US record. I will move it to Pseudophasmatidae.

I don't see stripes
I don't see the 2 stripes on these. Does the two-striped WS come in color morphs where it does not have stripes?

Looks like...
Anisomorpha buprestoides – the Two-Striped Walkingstick. But I don't know if it's range is into Texas or if there are similar species...
