Yes, common
The Polyphemus likes to fly at first light, so that would account for your not seeing it.

Not sure who frassed this, possibly the contributor,
but we have no specimen from NY in the guide yet (see data map), so it could be moved there to represent the state if you like.

I will do it for you on this one.
It's just tagging, navigating to the correct place in the guide and then clicking "move tagged images" - the info is in our Help section, if you need it for future reference.
Check the data map now and you'll see NY is colored in (a small thrill, I know, but you take what you can get, right?).
