Grapeleaf Skeletonizer - Harrisina americana

Grapeleaf Skeletonizer - Harrisina americana
Gainesville, Florida, USA
September 9, 2004
Reminded me of something I'd seen in these pages and I turned up this. What do you think?

Agreed
And moved to guide page.

Second Guessing
I was flipping through Covell (1) for something unrelated and spotted the Grapeleaf Skeletonizer Moth, Harrisina americana. I'm wondering if this could be that instead. The narrow rounded wings seem to be one indicator.

Wow, I really like that ID
I was puzzled by how my one was holding its wings differently from the other images of yellow-collared scape moth I saw posted. Now I look closer the collar of mine is fuzzy at the edges and not neatly rounded like the other. And the place where I saw this adult was within only a few feet of where I photographed the larvae of Harrisina earlier this year. The broad tufted tip of the abdomen is also an ID characteristic of Harrisina. I think it's time to move this to its rightful place. I love how flexible this site is - including those of us fumbling for IDS!

Yellow Collared moth or grapeleaf skeletonizer moth.
I have photos of one exactly like this one and originally thought that it was Cisseps fulvicolis, but I realize that I was wrong and that it must be Harrisina.
