Fleshy Tree Creature? - Phobetron pithecium

Fleshy Tree Creature? - Phobetron pithecium
south-east Ontario, Ontario, Canada
August 17, 2012
Size: approx 1 inch square
This strange creature fell from the 80-foot white pine tree over a deck at a cottage,(at least I assume it fell). It was a bit under an inch long, and the same wide fleshy and sort of hairy. It looked for all the world like a small sea creature ? crab? The underside of the abdomen is white segmented like a caterpillar! It was daytime. The cottage is on Bob's Lake, a largish lake in the Canadian Shield, near Sharbot Lake, Ontario, Canada.
First time we've seen one like this. Any guesses? Sorry for the low quality photo.
