Moved to Neoscona crucifera
Moved from
ID Request
. I'm going to move this to N. crucifera for the following reasons.. 1) it has the plainer pattern 2) it has white hairs on the legs. (I don't think I've ever seen a confirmed N. arabesca with white leg hairs.)

Spotted Orb Weaver
I think this is an Orb Weaver in the genus Neoscona, I'm not positive which species. Lets see what others think. The bathroom is a strange place to find one of these, they usually stay outside! :)

Neoscona crucifera?
This is an orb weaver, family Araneidae. Perhaps Neoscona crucifera? Looks a lot like one that was just IDed recently:
Let's wait to see what others have to say though.

I was thinking crucifera too but saw some very subtle variations in the pattern that had me questioning myself.

Variation
Likewise. I'm not very confident with these orb weavers. N. crucifera may have been a stretch of a guess.

The crucifera you referenced was one that turned up yesterday and we were unsure of it too because it was in a new state for it and I think this one is too? Can a species spread that far that fast? If they were always there I would think someone would have submitted them to BugGuide before, they're kind of conspicuous so they get photographed a lot. Interesting.

Location
N. crucifera has been reported from CA on BG. Though interestingly, the list of states specified on the info page doesn't include CA? Maybe it needs updating.

You're right
I added CA to the state list on the info page. For CA I use Steve Lew's list. You can see it
here
. It is quite comprehensive!
