Kind of Fly - Platypalpus

Kind of Fly - Platypalpus
Ohio River Islands NWR, Pleasants County, West Virginia, USA

Alas I didn't record the size, but I seem to recall it was somewhat small. ID help appreciated.

Moved from Dance Flies.

Platypalpus
This fly is in the genus Platypalpus

Thanks, Norm!
I'm glad to be able to move it to the appropriate genus!

Hybotidae
It belongs to the Dance fly group, Empididae and there to the Hybotidae. They are preying on other very small insects.

Clarifying
Martin, Thanks for the ID!

After your ID, I found Paul Beuk's comment on another photo that said this:

"There are two main streams in dance flies. One is to group them all together as one family with several subfamilies (Empidinae, Hybotinae, Microphorinae, and Atelestinae). In Europe and later in may other regions they followed Milan Chvála in his opinion that these subfamilies should be considered as separate families...."

So are you saying that most American researchers would call this Empididae, Europeans might call it Hybotidae?

And assuming I file it under Empididae here at BugGuide, then would Hybotinae be the subfamily to use?

Thanks again for your help, Martin.
