Aspen leaf mine - Phyllocnistis populiella

Aspen leaf mine - Phyllocnistis populiella
Angel Lake, Elko County, Nevada, USA
August 28, 2012

Moved
Moved from Unidentified Leaf Mines.
I think this is a species complex with other, undescribed species involved in the west, but this is the best placement for now. Getting the exact species of Populus may be useful.

"Quaking aspen"
USFS says quaking aspen (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/htnf/recarea?recid=66132) or dwarf aspen (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/htnf/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea?recid=65736&actid=29), with dwarf possibly a descriptive term rather than a species. The aspen trees were small.

Yes
Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides); "dwarf" is indeed just a decriptive term for short specimens (in this case induced by the subalpine environment).
