I found this brilliant green fly that I mistook for a bee or wasp at first... what is it?

Check out the green soldier flies
in the genus Hedriodiscus, in the guide here while you wait for a firm ID from one of the diptera experts.

fast
yikes, what a fast response!

It looks like the correct genus but this one has a completely black top of the thorax with no green spots. It must be this family though because it is really simlar to the other species.
I assume the males have the eyes that touch in the midline
