Mycterophora longipalpata

Attracted to lights. Noctuidae, Rivulinae. MONA 8415. Need new species page.

Mycterophora longipalpata
I agree with Bob's ID - and his comment on the quality of the photo compared to pinned specimens. Very nice shot.

Taxonomists have apparently had trouble deciding where to place the genus Mycterophora. It was originally classed as a geometrid, and has since been placed in five subfamilies of Noctuoidea by different authors at various times: Rivulinae by Hodges in 1983, Ophiderinae by Poole in 1989, Calpinae by Kitching and Rawlins in 1999, Hypeninae by CBIF in 2003, and Boletobiinae by All-Leps as of 2006.

I think the species page that was originally made for this photo was named inexplicata by mistake, and the name of the genus page was misspelled "Mycteropha", so I moved the image from Swarthy Mycterophora Moth to a new species page.

8413 - Mycterophora longipalpata
... yet another example where your photo is too pretty and detailed to permit easy comparison with dull spread specimens.
