Nectaring in Chrysothamnus nauseosus.

ID by Doug Yanega (Dept. of Entomology, Entomology Research Museum, UC Riverside, Riverside, CA):
Stelis (Dolichostelis) laticincta, a parasitic leafcutter bee.

Cleptoparasitic on Megachile (Michener, et al.:(1)).
Species of Megachile, subgenus Chelostomoides, are probable hosts for Stelis according to Doug Yanega. (See also here:2)

My oh my. I would never have guessed this was a Megachilid!

 
Didn't dare
to say 'Megachilid' in this case (until the ID by Doug Yanega), even though the wing venation seemed right, and it seemed to have a 'leafcutter look'.

Any particular reason you don't include the subfamily and tribe?

I just happened to check Recent at the right moment. The mechanics of setting up an empty guide page are very simple, so it took only a minute or two.

As to subfamily and tribe: none of the other taxa in the family are grouped that way, so I would have had to create subfamily and tribe guide pages for all the genera, then move them there- but first I would have have had to do some research to find out what they were, which is what takes the most time.
