Vespula vidua nest - Vespula vidua

Vespula vidua nest - Vespula vidua
Howell, Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA
August 3, 2012
Looked healthy at the start of the month, but seemed to decline rather quickly, not gradually like some other vespula.

Cool nest.
It is good you got it when you did. That is what i noticed about V. vidua last year. The nest was thriving in July and early August and by mid-August almost no activity. The nest I collected this year was the same thing really busy in July and then declined super quick in August.

I hope all of the reproductives were able to fly off.
