Hi Brandon,

I believe this photo is actually a Gryllus firmus. It looks like from these pictures and given the coastal location that that both species occur there. Your images with the lighter tegmina are likely G. firmus (or an admixed/hybrid individual).

Tim Vines recently contacted you to use a few of your images for the cover of Molecular Ecology, correct? I was the author on that paper, and I wanted to thank you for letting the journal use your images.
