Hemipenthes sp. - Hemipenthes morioides

Hemipenthes sp. - Hemipenthes morioides
Bannack State Park, Beaverhead County, Montana, USA
July 11, 2012
This bee fly was found in the arid sage-covered hills above Bannack, Montana. Based on images I can find and what available regarding the distribution of the different species, I believe this may be H. eumenes, but I am seeking confirmation.

H. morioides
Thank you very much! Can I ask what were the distinguishing features that helped you ID it to species? Once again, greatly appreciated!

Hemipenthes
H. moriodes has white edges on the mesonotum like H. eumenes, but the dark area in the wing doesn't extend past crossvein r-m in eumenes as it does here.

to clarify...
Trying to figure these out, so just to clarify, when you say the dark area in the wing doesn't extend past crossvein r-m in eumenes", do you mean the dark area doesn't extend past r-m in the discal cell? There's clearly dark pigmentation distal to r-m on the wing, so I guess that's not it. I can definitely see a difference in the discal cell in BugGuide pics, though.

eumenes
That's right, the difference is in the discal cell.

Thank you!
Thank you for the information. It is much appreciated!

Thank you! I wasn't sure where would be the best place to put this photo to enhance the likelihood of an expert seeing it. Cheers!
