What kind of bee is this?

Not a bee, but a fly
- a syrphid fly. I think it's in the genus Toxomerus, probably Toxomerus marginatus - maybe someone else will confirm

To tell bees from flies, among other things you can count the wings - flies only have two and bees have four. Behind the two wings are two little rounded stumps called halteres, colored pale yellow on this one.

This is a perfect pic to see why this species is called marginatus, because the margin of its abdomen is yellow...
