Scorpion Fly - Panorpa - female

Scorpion Fly - Panorpa - Female
Greenwood County, South Carolina, USA
September 11, 2004
Found on the wall of my garage. Approx. 3cm. I think it's a female scorpionfly, judging by the images on this site. (1)

Moved
Moved from Panorpa.

This might either be Panorpa
This might either be Panorpa virginica or a member of the Panorpa confusa complex, based on the wing markings, season, and locality. Panorpa virginica and its relatives have broader wings than the P. confusa complex, but it is hard to decide here. In any case a male needs to be examined under a microscope for absolute determination.
