Yellow Jacket Hover Fly
Looks like a Milesia Virginiensis. They act intimidating, but it's all bluff!

 
Indeed...
My wife and daughter didn't quite know what to make of it based on its appearance. We do have some yellow jackets and this is definately bigger than your average yellow jacket. I just want to try and make sure it wasn't something we need to keep a close eye out for. Thanks!
