Bombus - Bombus auricomus

Bombus - Bombus auricomus
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
August 11, 2006
This large bumblebee has been getting used to being photographed. At first it would fly off after buzzing me but now it mainly tends to ignore me when I take the closeup shots. And that wasn't a trick shot with the fly on the bee. (It makes it look like we have really large bumblebees in Wisconsin!)

Most bumblebees remain unidentified. Let us keep them at genus level in hopes that a specialist comes along and gives us a hand.
