Orb Weaver Garden Spider
Argiope aurantia. This is a female. The male is very small, with a body about the size of a match head and leg spread less than 2 cm. These will scare the dickens out of you, but are perfectly harmless and good to have around the flower garden -- keeps the place clean of bugs.
