nymph - Zelus

nymph - Zelus
south New Jersey Back yard which is surrounded by mostly oak trees, New Jersey, USA
September 5, 2004
This bug is about 1/2 inch, bright green with flattened head laterally and bulbous red eyes on each side. It's body was like a caterpillars, strongly curved upwards and had red spots down it's back. I have had two suggestions from other people but I still am not sure. One person suggested nymph of assasin bug Zelus Exsanguis (could be!) but then another suggestion was a Stilt bug. I have not found a pic of this but it seems the nymphs do not have wings and although I can't be absolutely sure I think this bug had small wings. Hope somebody out ther can id for sure. Thanks
Kathy

Hug Me!!

I love this pic!
It looks like this little guy wants a hug.

Assassin bug nymph
Definitely a nymph of Zelus sp. How cute:-) You can even see the fine hairs on its front legs. Those hairs are sticky, helping it to hold onto prey.
