Linyphiid - Centromerus - female

Linyphiid - Centromerus - Female
Cowichan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
September 20, 2012
Size: ~3mm body length
Found under some bark near the house. The most cooperative Linyphiid I've yet worked with! I've come to expect constant movement from them, but this one would sit still for a couple of minutes at a time. My flash firing incessantly didn't bother her either.

I've included two shots of the epigynum with different lighting.

From Rod Crawford
It is Centromerus sp. #1; known for many years but still unnamed. Subfamily Micronetinae (Linyphiinae sensu lato).

Moved from Spiders.

Centromerus sp. #1
Thanks! Seems like there are only two named Centromerus species recorded in BC.

Cicurina ?
The carapace looks very Cicurinaish to me. I've emailed Rod.

Cicurina?
Hmm, I hadn't considered that possibility. I don't know though... none of the BC Cicurinas seem to have a matching carapace shape. Their spinnerets also look bigger (maybe more cylindrical too, not sure). I think the Cicurina sternum is also smoother and less pronounced around the edges, though I haven't seen many examples.

I called upon the spider's powers of cooperation once more this morning and got a face shot which I'm uploading.
