Short-winged Meadow Katydid - Conocephalus brevipennis - female

Short-winged Meadow Katydid - Conocephalus brevipennis - Female
Avery County, North Carolina, USA
September 13, 2012
Presumably Conocephalus brevipenni. Is the slightly darker coloring around the face and on the abdomen typical variation? (No other photos, so not sure of gender.)

this is a female
Difficult to be positive without seeing the ovipositor, but I'm pretty sure you are correct. Dark ones occur occasionally, even brown ones.

Moved from Meadow Katydids.

Thanks, David.
