Walkingstick species? - Diapheromera femorata - female

Walkingstick species? - Diapheromera femorata - Female
Reston, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
August 23, 2011
I see Northern Walkingsticks here at our Nature Center often - dark brown and/or green, with a broad camouflage-colored 'shield' on the middle pair of legs. This one was so different in color. Is it also a N. walkingstick? Perhaps right after molting?

hard to tell from the images alone, but this one may have
not been fully mature, and nymphs are often colored differently (lighter and more even in pattern) than adults. Also, females are usually much plainer in pattern than the males. This one is female.

Moved from ID Request.

Great - Thanks! I was wonder
