Egg Sac - Neoscona crucifera

Egg Sac - Neoscona crucifera
Elkins Park, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 28, 2012
Wasn't sure what to put in the "size" field; the sac itself was almost exactly 1.25cm and the surrounding "hammock" holding it in place was almost exactly double that (around 2.5cm).

This is just under the lip of a gutter, about 10 feet from where a Neoscoma crucifera had her web for about 3 weeks. When not centered in her web, she hung out off to the side, just under the gutter.
I have no way of knowing if it was that same specimen that placed this sac or even if this is a neoscoma sac because I did not witness it being made.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I'm not interested in isolating it and watching it hatch (though I may just leave it where it is and keep an eye on it), I'm just curious if it can be identified by the image.

Moved from ID Request. Compare with

Neoscona crucifera,
is a good guess esp. since you had one living in that area.

Ah!
Cool, thanks!
I couldn't find another example like it (we need an advance search option!)
:)

yes I agree the search
could use some help... but I've put that image on the info page, so it won't be so hard to find in the future.
