Found this beauty sitting all alone on our cedar fence under a Silver Maple. A Cedar Beetle on a cedar fence - how appropriate!

S. petrophyta?
The lightly colored tarsal pads are apparently diagnostic for S. petrophyta. See the comment here: https://bugguide.net/node/view/320623
EDIT: I checked in Horn's key, and the thoracic shape is wrong for S. petrophyta (which has a distinct angle in the posterior third, versus completely straight in S. niger, as it is with this specimen)
