indeed, looks a lot like Aclypea opaca
...but see the comment here

Somehow
I was able to change this image to one I just completed of the specimen. Based on the specimens I have seen of Aclypea and the known distributions, and poking around with this specimen, it has to be Aclypea bituberosa

what is the known distribution?

see (1)

So Utah, Colorado, but not AZ. Thanks!

thanks, Guy; lovely image, as always
glad we have it vouchered now. way to go.

awesome
Thanks a ton Dr. Hanley!! too bad it's not the Alaska one, but still very neat carrion beetle. I'm glad you took a new photo, this one is of excellent quality!

Would like to see
an image of the labrum....Here is the Anderson and Peck reference (http://www.esc-sec.ca/aafcmonographs/insects_and_arachnids_part_13.pdf) for distributions...Were there more specimens? I'd certainly like to see one up close for determination...

No we just
have the one, but our teacher has several that look to be different species, all very similar to this. I could probably send you one. Ill post the picture when I get a chance

This specimen
is fairly important if it is in fact A. opaca as there are no other specimens I know of from other than the far north....

wow super neat!
could you confirm if I sent it to you?

Yes
I certainly could. contact me at guy.hanley@minotstateu.edu.
