Machimus
Very fine shot. And that is a Machimus female. Unfortunately there are quite a few species in Illinois.

Thanks Herschel...genus is better than nothing. This was the only shot that I got of this lady. She popped in and I was in the right place at the right time and she had a cool looking meal.

Can't help with ID, but
that's a good photo -- robber fly in action. Even the shadow adds to the effect.
