Great image!
Never have seen anything like it. All the bird dropping caterpillar we have seen have been swallowtails or viceroys. Any idea what plant it was on? That might help narrow things down. This is the best imitation we have ever seen!

i had actually seen a caterpillar very similar to this one in the 80's in prescott, Az - let me know if you find out anything further - im curious also
