katydid - Amblycorypha oblongifolia - male

katydid - Amblycorypha oblongifolia - Male
Hartford County, Connecticut, USA
August 14, 2006
Size: ~45mm
I believe that this is Amblycorypha oblongifolia, although an expert opinion is welcome. There is no species page for this and I have no idea how to create one.

Here is the reasoning behind my id:
Following the key at http://buzz.ifas.ufl.edu/s001k.htm:
a) < 65mm
b) Distance between antennal sockets wider than width of basal antennal segment
c) Hind femur reaches rear 1/4 of forewing
Which brings us to Amblycorypha.
Looking at the range maps, brings us down to A. carinata, A. oblongifolia and A. rotundifolia.
Following the key species groups of Amblycorypha at http://buzz.ifas.ufl.edu/g001k.htm:
a) The metasternal lobe was longer than it was wide (didn't think to get a picture of this) which rules out A. rotundifolia.
Then according to "Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids and Crickets" by Capinera, Scott and Walker, A. oblongifolia has a stridulatory area larger than the pronontal disk, which this specimen does - compared with A. carinata in which it is the same size or smaller.

To top it off, it had the same song as recorded here: http://buzz.ifas.ufl.edu/007a.htm.

Am I missing anything?

Wow,
great job with keying it out. Thomas Walker confirms this is oblongifolia and a male.
