So NH - Unknown type of beetle now in abundance on buildings -
Leptoglossus occidentalis
Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA
October 7, 2012
Size: ~1 inch
These beetles have suddenly appeared in Southern NH on the sides of buildings within the past few weeks.

The photo of the Western Coni
The photo of the Western Conifer Seed Bug that I posted was taken by my son and seems like a better shot than most in the reference photos for that species. Is there a way to include it in that gallery?

It was originally a western species...
...but is now found throughout much of the country (except, it appears, in the deep south).
And it's not a beetle... It's one of the so-called "true bugs" in the Order Heteroptera. :)

I did notice the expansion of
I did notice the expansion of its range all the way to eastern Canada. I guess looking like a beetle doesn't make it a beetle but the term "bug" seems so general. Obviously I'm not much of an entomologist.
