Clipwing Grasshopper - Metaleptea brevicornis - female

Clipwing Grasshopper - Metaleptea brevicornis - Female
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 20, 2004
Size: 42 mm
Found at a light. Chilled and posed. Length, forehead to tip of folded wings was measured at about 42 mm. This is apparently a female, based on size, coloration, abdominal morphology, and photographs in Grasshoppers of Florida. (1)

Many thanks, as always, to Eric Eaton for help with the identification.

My guess
My guess is Metaleptea, but you have better references than I do:-) See if the tip of the hind femur reaches or exceeds the tip of the tegmen in one of these two choices, and that might give you an answer. Obviously, in this specimen, the femora are not that long.
