possibly Red-legged Grasshopper
looks to me like a male Red-legged Grasshopper (Melanoplus fermurrubrum). I could be wrong, but the U-shaped subgenital plate matches the Red-legged. They aren't usually this yellow, but there are several overall color variations.

yellow is exaggerated
I did some postprocessing on one photo so the yellow is exaggerated. But its bright yellow under the sun is really so catchy that I cannot resist to take so many shots of it. And it stayed still and so cooperative.

very nice photos, regardless.
I'm 99% confident it's a male Redlegged. They do actually come in a variety of colors (even a rare blue form), so bright yellow isn't out of the realm of possibility. Identifying a lot of the Melanoplus to species can be tricky, but is easier in males.

Thanks.
I would like to see a blue one in the future.
