Explanation of Names
Author of genus is Kirby, 1904. From phyllo- Greek, leaf, plus Vates Burmeister 1838, a similar genus of neotropical mantids (based on Internet searches). Latin vates meant a prophet or soothsayer, and may be from a Celtic language, referring to a Druidic priest (see Wikipedia).
