Explanation of Names

Author is Banks, 1913. Apparently from Greek, scoto, meaning darkness, blindness, plus leon Latin, lion (Internet searches).

Numbers

The Antlion Pit lists 23 species for the nearctic region--this may include Mexico.

Range

Species from Pacific Northwest to Southwest (The Antlion Pit).

Food

Adults of at least one species reported to take nectar from Gaura flowers in Texas (1).
