Male/Female P. mystaceus together - Phidippus mystaceus - male - female

Male/Female P. mystaceus together - Phidippus mystaceus - Male Female
Seminole, Seminole County, Oklahoma, USA
October 17, 2012
Is this in any way beneficial to the guide? Frass if not. Just hear so many people saying they can never find them... much less together. I have a courtship going on right now on my fence!

I am so excited!
Though I think for now the female has had enough and is running away, there are THREE male P. mystaceus on my fence right now! I've never seen three! Here's a link to the album where all of these pictures I took are if you care to see (click photo): 2012-10-17

Very cool! Says the page was not found on the album, though. :(

Ha, great stuff! :D The shots with the female and two males in the same frame are very cool. Quite a find, all of those P. mystaceus in one place.

Yes, I agree!
It was a lucky spider-lover's day here in my front yard!

I think so
We don't have any pictures of a male and female together, so I think this is good to have. If you have more shots of the courtship, that would be really awesome!

I do! And still processing them...
I don't know if the male is threatening her or courting her... his posturing looks similar to when they meet another spider and they're trying to look big. I watched them for quite a long time and they would stare at each other from about 9-10 inches forever... then move closer. She was moving towards him and he was posturing... At one point they got about 2.5" apart and then ran away from each other for a second time...

Keep shooting, it sounds like courtship
Male salticids impress females with a dance that includes stretching some of their legs upward. YouTube has videos of this.

I wish...
I had a good hd cam that I could have captured this with... I have seen some amazing behavior vids on YouTube on the subject of jumping spiders...

The female finally ran off down the fence...
With a total of three males on my fence. So thrilled... see the photo link above!
