Queen Butterfly - Danaus gilippus - Danaus gilippus - female

Queen Butterfly - Danaus gilippus - Danaus gilippus - Female
Georgetown (inside the city limits), Williamson County, Texas, USA
October 2, 2012
One can see from the wings that this is a female. The male Queen Butterfly may be easily distinguished from the female by noting the two highly visible black spots on the insect's hind wings. I will upload an image of a separate individual to show this difference.

Great Pic!
I'm down the road from you in Austin. I have the exact same butterfly plant in my backyard. I also took photos back in October...almost identical to yours amazing!
