male brown recluse?? - Loxosceles reclusa

male brown recluse?? - Loxosceles reclusa
Dixon, Phelps County, Missouri, USA
August 19, 2006
Size: about 5mm leg span
I found this spider crawling across my arm. Sorry for the poor quality pics, but he was so small that he made my arm hairs look huge! He had the coloring of the brown recluse, so I took time to take pics before releasing him outside. Is this a male brown recluse, or can you tell from these images?

The
eyes look right for a recluse. Looks like a spiderling. Too small to sex.
The adults prefer dark, undisturbed areas.

a spiderling?
Oh great. I would have preferred a male. Spiderling implies many others in my house.

Unless
there is a steady supply of insect prey in your house, it probably came from outdoors or your garage.
This one doesn't look to good with that shrivled abdomen. It probably didn't have much longer to go anyway.

it should be ok now
I released it outside, so it should be able to find something to eat.
