Pterostichus? - Pterostichus punctatissimus

Pterostichus? - Pterostichus punctatissimus
Mistissini, Nord-du-Québec County, Quebec, Canada
July 25, 2012
Size: 17 mm
P. (Lenapterus) punctatissimus appears as an excellent candidate, at least from a superficial perspective. This one was collected in a pitfall trap set in a mature, undisturbed spruce forest, about 500 m above sea level. What bugs me is that this species is supposed to hang around in tundras and/or mountainous areas, above/near the timberline. As you can see, the spot where this one (and others) was found was nowhere near either...

These were relatively common in the pitfall traps in the area in late July/early-to-mid August (well, they were the most common carabids at the very least).

Moved from Harpalinae.

I'm no expert on Carabids but
I'm no expert on Carabids but it looks like a P. punctatissimus to me. I catch them in black spruce bogs here in Manitoba when I'm trapping Scaphinotus.
