This is the genus Petaserpes.
This is the genus Petaserpes. North Carolina has many species, but you can't tell which this one is from the photo. Nevertheless, a very neat millipede.

Definitely in the order Polyzoniida. It looks like the metatergite corners are pretty flat, and that along with other similar pictures in the guide, it looks like the family Polyzoniidae.
