Strange bee - Megachile latimanus - male

Strange bee - Megachile latimanus - Male
Thomasburg, Hastings, Ontario, Canada
August 20, 2006
Size: 1.25-1.5 cm
This first struck me as a ball of fuzz moving oddly. On closer inspection it turned out to be either a bee or a mimic. Strangest feature to me, the thick, fuzzy forelegs and yellow eyes.

male; similar M. frigida would have dark front tibiae

Male leafcutter bee.
These are nice shots of a male leafcutter bee, genus Megachile. Some species have those furry front legs:-)

Thanks!
Thanks very much. Such an interesting bee--and I had no idea where to start trying to figure out what it was!
