Leaf-footed bug nymph - Leptoglossus phyllopus

Leaf-footed bug nymph - Leptoglossus phyllopus
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
June 24, 2006
Size: 8 mm
We have a lot of unidentified Coreid nymphs on this site, and I believe that many of them are Leptoglossus. I observed some on Jerusalem Cherry in my yard through to adulthood. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot of the very first instars, but I did take measurements of the later ones I photographed, which is something we've been lacking. Note also red body, black legs, and spiky black nodes on the back, which are all things we often see on the tiny red nymphs. You can see developing black wingpads on this one, which earlier instars would not have.
