Cucumber Moth - Diaphania hyalinata

Cucumber Moth - Diaphania hyalinata
Lakeland, Polk County, Florida, USA
November 7, 2012
Size: 1 inch across approximate
I found this small moth on the underside of a cucumber in my veggie garden next to butterfly garden. I thought his wing markings would be easy to identify but I went through my entire small Butterfly/moth ID guide and Wagner's Caterpillars of Eastern North America and couldn't find it.

Moved from Diaphania.

Moved
Moved from Melonworm Moth. I'll move the other 21 images from FL up here in a few days if I don't hear otherwise.

Diaphania hyalinata
I think you had it right. The genus at BugGuide has been updated and all recognized species are listed. I just updated the See Also. This has a mostly white abdomen but lacks the all white apical segment of D. indica. With the wings slightly folded, it's a bit challenging but I think that species would have the black border of forewings broader.

Moved from ID Request.

Diaphania sp.
Several very similar Diaphania are possible in FL.
Under the "See Also" section of the species page.
Thanks

Larvae
I was looking on wikipedia and google images to try to figure out where this one belongs. I know I have seen the caterpillars because they have been decimating my garden. I found one inside a hole in a cantaloupe that is still developing the other day.

Interesting
I noticed that the bushy thing at the end of the abdomen, I know it has a name..I don't know what it is, is a grayish, brown and most of the coloring of this part of this species on this page are more of an orange/yellow. I have cukes, canataloupe and watermelon all next to each other in the garden. No pumpkins.. Not sure if the veggies would help identify further.

I see
what should we do with the 22 images from FL here now?
