Possibly Hanging Thief
Compare with images here of the Hanging Thieves, Diogmites neoternatus. Nice image!

Hanging Thief
You're right on with that identification. The flies in your pictures look like twins to mine.

I'm new to this, so I am amazed that anyone could look at my picture and immediately recognize it out of thousands of possibles.

Don't Be Too Impressed
I'm new at this too, and had a very fuzzy pic IDed as a Hanging Thief just two weeks ago. It is now in the frass, but I've learned something from the process . . .

Robber Fly
I'm not an expert. I was confused w/ this insect as well and my image was identified as a Robber Fly.

Robber Fly
I searched "Robber Fly" on Google images, and the flies shown had hair on their bodies, which my fly does not have. Searching "Hanging Thief" fly on Google turned up very close matches to the fly in my picture.

I appreciate your interest and quick reply.
