The males have a much shorter life span than the females. There is also much variation in size - do you recall the approx. length of this one?

One of the males in another photo I have from a different day shows that the male in that photo was about 1-1/2 times the size of a long-legged fly in the genus Condylostylus so the wasp could have been around 15mm in length. This is just an estimate, however.
