Horesidotes cinereus - Female
Saguaro National Park--west section, Pima County, Arizona, USA

Size: 20 mm
Scared up by a lizard, this jumped into a patch of prickly-pear. I think I have this ID correct, but this is a tricky one. Confirmation appreciated! Size estimated.

It is correct
Two most easily confused with it are Acantherus [with longer wider antennae, usually white at the tip; thorax is different on top; and with more slender legs that often show some red color] and Psoloessa texasna [with thicker hind femora, slightly stockier build, and somewhat more vertical face].

I always have a hard time catching / photographing Horesidotes. They dive into the brush (or cacti), are hard to see there, and are very agile, alert things.

thanks...
...for confirmation. These are very tricky, and we just have a few photos here. I lucked out on a brief visit to Arizona, grasshopper-wise!

and, check out...
...the etymology of the genus name!
