Mysterious spiny-shouldered stink bug - Euschistus ictericus

Mysterious spiny-shouldered stink bug - Euschistus ictericus
Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 21, 2006
Size: half an inch long
This bug appeared on a cattail in the middle of a somewhat dried-up marsh. The ridge on the pronotum keeps me from jumping to the conclusion that it's a Podisus.

Moved from Euschistus.

Moved from Stink Bugs. Can you explain the detail that gets this to species, v? It's a new one for us.

pronotal ridge between humeri peculiar

must be Euchistus ictericus

from J. E. McPherson: "looks like E. ictericus"

from D.B.Thomas: "likely ictericus (as opposed to crassus)...
"...because of the swampy habitat favored by the former"
